Former Modified Champ, Karrick, Finds His Way Back To Victory Lane... Clancy Wins Another Grand National Feature & Schmidt Has 3x The Fun In Factory Stock
Kansas City, KS. - Tim Karrick has had a tough '09 season to date.
He is driving a new car and it hasn't been easy figuring this one out. From time to time cars can be hard to get a handle on and even a veteran like Karrick isn't immune to having tough times in the racing world.
On Friday night Karrick shook some off some of those bad vibes and won an interesting Modfiied feature at Lakeside Speedway. In victory lane Karrick looked like he regained the smile that has become a strong characteristic of his over the years.
Danny Charles got the upper hand on the field as this feature got underway, but it was Karrick that showed the crowd a glimpse of the past. Karrick would roar his way up to Charles, after he disposed of John O'Neal Jr. Karrick pulled along side of the leader coming out of four. By the time Karrick was going into turn 1, he had the lead. From there it was over with, hand Karrick the trophy... not so fast someone forgot to tell John Allen that the feature was over with.
Allen, another past champion in the Modifieds, came roaring up through the field. Starting from near the middle of the pack, Allen worked his way through a lot of traffic. He would continue to chop down the field as he went by car after car. On a restart, Allen, working the bottom of the race track, got a run on the 2nd place car of Charles. He would take the spot and set sail for Karrick.
Lap after lap it didn't appear that Allen was making any headway on the momentum that Karrick was building in the lead. Allen stayed to his line and slowly he began to move closer to Karrick. Karrick, meanwhile, had begun to let up a little getting into turn number 3 and that was all Allen would need to mount an attack on Karrick.
The two swapped positions before Karrick would get it back. On the white flag lap, lapped traffic would come into play. Heading into turn 3, Karrick committed to the high line and Allen the low line. The two would have to split the lapped car of John Baker. As they exited turn 4 it was Karrick with a 1/4 of a car length ahead of Allen at the finish.
Bubba Harvey finished 3rd, 4th went to Danny Charles and finishing 5th, with the drive of the night, was Joe Walker. Walker had to start 24th on the grid and came home with an impressive top 5 finish.
