THERE HE WAS...GONE! PADEN PHILLIPS DOMINATES HUMBOLDT B MODS!

by Scott L Stewart

After what had to be total devastation last week when he won the B Mod feature only to fail post race weigh in and be disqualified, Paden Phillps absolutely dominated Friday's feature race at Humboldt Speedway.

The interesting thing was, as he stood on the front straight away to accept the trophy and admiration of his fans, Phillips was just as composed as he appeared to be while winning the feature wire to wire. As one veteran observer put it, "it was just another night at the office." Runner up Nathan Ellison had to work hard though, out dueling Jerry Kustenborter for second. Fourth place wnt to Jim Daniels, while the seemingly indestructable Jay Lamons, Jr., who fielded a new car after destroying his old one just scant weeks ago, finished fifth.

It's really nice to have top notch equipment, but it's even better if you've got skills; as Scott Stuart proved in yet another Factory Stock feature win. Stuart started 4th row inside, bolted to the lead in four laps, then fought off a determined Zack Simmons for the win. Third place finisher Jeremy Wilson was in the hunt to the very end as well. Derrek Wilson finished fourth, with Freddy Partida, Jr. in fifth.

Jess Folk, Jr. started the Modified feature 3rd row inside, picked his line, and worked his way steadily foward to win the feature. John Allen made some bold moves, but had to settle for second. Ryan Whitworth led early, faltered, and collected When the power plant failed, it stopped Whitworth dead in his tracks, and only lightning fast reflexes kept fourth place Whitey Folk out of what would have certainly been a disasterous crash. Dan Daniels was fifth.

For Chance Knight, it was his second Street Stock win of the season at Humboldt, but not an easy one, as Johnny Green rocketed from last to second, and mounted a serious challenge before taking runner up. Tyler James finished a strong third, followed by Dusty Marvin and Jed Rice.

The Humboldt Speedway family is grieving as this article is being written: gone is our good friend Nino Villapondo, who succumbed to heart disease. Nino was everything a person could ask for as a friend; quick with a smile and a funny story, always willing to help anyone with anything, a loving, giving person. Many people from the seats didn't get to know Nino, and that is truly sad, because they missed out on a great, spirited human being. Adios, "Latino Heat", you are sorely missed by those fortunate enough to know you.
