LAKESIDE MODIFIED SHOOTOUT NIGHT #2

STARTED: 3RD

FINISHED: DNF

John had much better luck drawing on Saturday night.  He started the 7th heat on the front row outside.  He jumped to the lead and never looked back.  Then he redrew 3!  He was feeling great about his chances to get his first win at Lakeside in the 2008 season.  In the feature he dropped behind polesitter, Cody Owens and followed him for about 5 laps.  Then he made his move and took the lead.  The yellow flag flew a couple of times and John would always drive away from the field.  Then, after a long yellow lapped traffic came into play.  Second place Mark Shafman was able to close the gap and then get by John.  John quickly got through the lapped cars and drove right back to the lead.  The car was amazing!  Again, with only 4 laps to go on lap 21 the yellow flag flew again.  John drove into one only to have the car turn right.  The left rear tire was flat!  John was left with another DNF after a dominating performace.

John will be back at Lakeside Speedway this coming weekend for the Jayhawk Classic.  Hope to see you there!

Karrick Wins #42 In A Thriller, Phillips Shows Domination At The Capitol Federal Late Model Showdown & Modified Shootout

Kansas City, KS - Heading into Saturday night's Capitol Federal Late Model Showdown and Modified Shootout, Tim Karrick just wanted to show the fans in attendance that he was better than what he showed on Friday night.

Karrick had an 'uncharacteristic' poor outing on Friday night. He wasn't even able to get out of the C Feature. With the level of competition at Lakeside, just racing in the event was tough enough. Saturday night, Karrick, had a mission, have fun and race.

The night got off to a good start for Karrick in his heat race.

He didn't start in the front, but soon made his way to the front of the field. Once at the front it was one of the best battles of the night, as he worked on the leader, John Baker. Karrick would have to finish 2nd and it made sure that he would be in the A main event.

Two Thousand dollars was on the line for the winner Saturday night. To win a feature at Lakeside Speedway you have to be on your A Game! Karrick was heading into the feature not on his A game, but he was getting there. He had some time to work on is ride before the feature, where he would start in the 8th row.

It was a tough assignment, but after winning 41 features at Lakeside Speedway since 2000, he knew it could be done.

Cody Owens started on the front row and blasted out to an impressive lead.

Former Lakeside Speedway Modified Track Champion, John Allen, shot his way into 2nd and was on the tail of Owens. After a yellow on the speedway, Allen, intensified his pursuit for the number 1 spot.

After the restart, Allen, used the high side and power to run by Owens and take the top spot.

Back in the field several competitors were slicing and dicing their way to the front. The top 5 were Allen, Owens, Mark Schafman, Danny Charles and Kerry Davis.

Karrick and Dustin Boney were moving their way up to the front from the middle of the field.

Allen would sit at the front for a while in the big race. He bagan to work his way into lapped traffic just past the halfway point of the event.

Schafman, meanwhile, was content to run down Owens for the 2nd spot and tried to catch up to Allen.

It didn't take long as Allen worked his way through the traffic, Schafman, a two time feature winner, would catch him and make the pass. It was an awesome display of driving from both drivers. Racing each other as clean as they could. The fans were being treated to lap after lap of side by side action. Allen would regain the lead, but a yellow would come out on lap 21.

The top 5 had shifted a bit. Davis was now in 3rd, 4th was Karrick and 5th was Tom Charles.

At the drop of the green flag Allen took to the lead again.

Disaster struck Allen on the next lap. As he was leading the field into turn one, it appeared that he hooked a rut and the car was upset. Compounding the issue was a flat tire. It sent him up towards the wall and out of the race. Schafman would now take the point.

Getting a good jump on the restart, Schafman gained a nice advantage. Davis, Karrick & Charles were putting on a strong bid for 2nd. Another yellow would set up a green, white, checkered finish.

Karrick would rocket into 2nd place on the restart. As he went back into turn 1 on the white flag lap, Schafman went too low. Karrick with his momentum would sail by Schafman out of turn number 2 and head on to his 42nd feature win at Lakeside Speedway since 2000.

A great way to finish his weekend.

Schafman would settle for 2nd, Kerry Davis appeared to finish 3rd followed by Dustin Boney in 4th and rounding out the top 5 was the feature winner from night number 1, Chad Lyle.

(Official Finish Results Are Still Pending)

Heat race winners on the night were Cody Owens, Eddie Bray, John Allen, Tim Shields, Mark Schafman, Justin Boney, John Baker and Jim Whisler.
