John started 2nd row outside in the fourth and final heat race.  He won it.  This put him starting in the same position for the feature.  On the get go John raced into 3rd.  He followed the 2nd place car of Jason Thompson until lap 10.  On lap 10 out of 30 John passed Jason for 2nd.  He then went to work on race leader Justin Boney.  Justin started on the outside pole and took the lead on the start.   John ran him down and followed him through lap traffic.  There were no more yellow flags for the remaining 20 laps of the A feature and John could not get by Justin.  Justin took the win and John had to settle for second.

Boney Goes For 'Star Spangled' Cash! Murphy Pulls Off Late Race Heroics, Covert Wins Factory Stock & Wettengel Takes Hobby Win

Topeka, KS - The holiday weekend finally came to a close in the area with the running of the 'Star Spangled' Modified Spectacular at Heartland Park Topeka.

Justin Boney, got things going in the right direction early in the night. Boney picked up the 2nd heat win of the night. This put him outside Jason Thompson on the front row of the A main.

From the drop of the green flag, Boney sailed to the front and held on a hard charging John Allen on the last corner to claim the $2,500 top prize.

Allen worked his way through lapped traffic trying to chase down Boney, but just couldn't get the job done. He would settle for the runner-up spot. Dustin Boney, Justin's brother, would claim the 3rd spot. The younger Boney started in the 7th position and was able to move forward. Pole setter, Jason Thompson, reeled in a 4th place finish and rounding out the top 5 was Steven Bowers Jr.

Brian Murphy used a late race charge on leader Marty Grist to take home the checkered flag in the B Mod Feature, Shane Wettengel finished ahead of teamate, Shaun Still, to win the Hobby Stock Feature and Kyle Covert picked up another feature win in the Factory Stock Division.
