Four venues in crosshairs of USMTS “hunters” this week

WICHITA, Kan.—Another four rounds of the Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup will be in the books by Monday morning as drivers look to make a stand in the battle to become the 2014 USMTS national champion.



The series makes its second visit in the last two months on Thursday, Aug. 7, at the 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan. From there, the mud-slinging Modifieds make their final stop of the season at the Humboldt Speedway in Humboldt, Kan., on Friday, Aug. 8, and then the annual trek to Wheatland, Mo., and the Lucas Oil Speedway for the 5th Annual Lucas Slick Mist Shootout on Saturday, Aug. 9. The weekend wraps up with a visit to the West Siloam Speedway near Colcord, Okla., on Sunday, Aug. 10.



Each of the four events this weekend will award $3,000 to the winner, plus dozens of other bonuses and contingency awards for the Best of the Best in open-wheel dirt modified racing.



THURSDAY, AUG. 7 – 81 SPEEDWAY, PARK CITY, KAN.



On Thursday, gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with hot laps slated for 7 and racing at 7:30. Race fans can pick up coupons good for $2 off adult admission at Casey’s General Stores locations in Maize, Newton, Valley Center and Wichita.



Nine-time USMTS national champion Kelly Shryock and his #3 Snickers Modified will be available to meet and greet fans at the Casey’s located at 3520 N. Woodlawn in Wichita from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.



The 81 Speedway is located north of Wichita on I-135 to exit 16, then 0.7 mile west on 77th St., and features Musco Sports Lighting and free camping (no hook-ups). For race day information, call the track hotline at (316) 755-1781 or visit www.81speedway.org online.



FRIDAY, AUG. 8 – HUMBOLDT SPEEDWAY, HUMBOLDT, KAN.



On Friday at the Humboldt Speedway, spectator gates will swing open at 5 p.m. and the first green flag will wave at 8 p.m. Also on the racing card will be USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Mods and Pure Stocks.



John Allen and his #98 Sour Patch Kids/Oreo Modified will be at the Casey’s General Store located at 220 W. Cherry in Chanute from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and Daniel Hilsabeck, along with his #22D AMP Energy Drinks Modified will be at the 712 E. Madison Ave. store in Iola from 11:30-1:30. Fans can pick up $2-off adult admission coupons at both stores throughout the day.

SATURDAY, AUG. 9 – LUCAS OIL SPEEDWAY, WHEATLAND, MO.



Saturday will find the tireless USMTS touring titans at the Lucas Oil Speedway for the first and only time this season.



“This is one race that Lucas Oil Speedway fans circle on the calendar each year as the top modified drivers in the country make their annual pilgrimage to Lucas Oil Speedway,” said the track’s general manager Dan Robinson.



Lucas Oil Speedway will grant two track provisionals for the feature event. Provisional spots will be awarded to the two drivers not making the show who are the highest in current Lucas Oil Speedway USRA Modified points.



USRA B-Mods and Factory Stocks will also be tackling the “Diamond of Dirt Tracks” along with the Battle of the Badges which showcases Missouri's finest law enforcement officers racing to raise money for charity.



Be sure to stop by the Casey’s General Store location in Wheatland before and after the races for all your supplies and needs, and remember to get your $2-off admission coupon. Kelly Shryock and his #3 Snickers Modified will meet and greet fans at the Casey’s in Wheatland from 11:30 to 1:30.



Coupons are also available at Casey’s stores in Bolivar, Hermitage, Osceola and Weaubleau on race day.



Lucas Oil Speedway is located at Highways 83 and 54 in Wheatland, Mo. A campground with shower and bathroom facilities is also available. With its entrance located just outside the pit gate, this sprawling scenic camping facility will continue to enhance the racing experience. SUNDAY, AUG. 10 – WEST SILOAM SPEEDWAY, COLCORD, OKLA.



The quadrupleheader weekend wraps up at the West Siloam Speedway near Colcord, Okla., on Sunday with gates opening at 6 p.m. and hot laps at 7 p.m. with racing to follow. USRA B-Mods, PSRA Pure Stocks and Grand Nationals will also share the spotlight.

After three races in the Hunt for the Casey’s National Championship, Rodney Sanders holds a 68-point advantage (388 to 320) over Johnny Scott. Zack VanderBeek is third with 313 markers, followed by Stormy Scott (311), Kelly Shryock (309), Daniel Hilsabeck (299), Terry Phillips (295), Dereck Ramirez (273), Joe Duvall (266) and Cade Dillard (255).
