Lanterman Tames High Banks, Scores First Career NCRA Mod Victory!
Belleville, Kansas – July 5, 2013 – Josh Lanterman didn’t let a flat tire in the early going of Friday night’s National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products modified feature finale detour him from victory as he roared back through the field to pick up the biggest victory of his career, taming the Belleville High Banks in Belleville, Kansas.
Jon Thompson and former five-time series champion John Allen started on the front row for the fifteen lap feature with Allen taking the lead as the green flag fell. Allen stayed out front before the caution would wave on lap five when Lanterman slowed to a stop with a flat tire. His crew would change the flat and he would restart at the tail of the field.
On the restart Allen jumped back out into the lead but one lap later, Thompson would pass him and take over the top spot.
Then on lap nine things went south for Allen as his motor would expire, sending him to the pits with a fourteenth place finish.
Fourth starting Dan Powers began working on Thompson for the lead and on lap eleven would take over the top spot. But all eyes were on the middle of the field as Lanterman began picking off cars one by one before catching Powers with three laps to go.
Lanterman, aboard his familiar #4a Don’s Retail Liquor/Decker Financial Services/AAA Cleaning Services sponsored KSB Engines powered Hoffman chassis, would continue his momentum and with two laps to go would pull even with Powers for the lead, before taking the position with on the last lap. There was no stopping him from that point forward as he to take his first career series victory and become the eleventh different feature winners in as many races dating back to last year.
“This is just totally awesome and to pass my brother (Powers) for the lead, this is just too cool.”
Powers won at the high banks back in September, making the victory for Lanterman even sweeter.
Powers held on for second while tenth starting A.J. Brochu round out of laps yet finished a strong third. Thompson faded to fourth while thirteenth starting Justin Moler rounded out the top five.
Heat races for the 16 car field were won by Thompson and Allen.
The next event for the NCRA modified division will take place next Friday and Saturday night, July 12-13, at the famed Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, Kansas for the 57th annual Hutchinson Grand Nationals where Saturday night’s championship feature winner will take home $2000.
