HUMBOLDT SPEEDWAY SEASON OPENER

HUMBOLDT, Kan. -- Thirty-three USRA Modifieds gathered for the season opener of "The Hummer." Some were weekly racers and some were looking to test and tune for the King of America race coming up next week. John started on the pole of the third heat race. He led every lap and took the win! The car was still a little tight and John wanted to make some changes.

He almost didn't make the call for the "A" feature as the he couldn't get the car to fire. The crew went to work and ended up having to change the ignition box and barely made out to start the feature on the outside of row two.

The race had a hard time getting started. On the first start John fell back to 5th, but a car spun in turn two and brought out the yellow. On the second start John raced up to 2nd and was looking good before a tire was noticed way up by the fence in turn two and yellow flag flew again. Third time's a charm as they say and the race stayed green for all 20 laps. John was 5th for most of the race and the car was ill handling. During the closing laps John couldn't hang on any longer and was shuffled back to finish 7th. Pole sitter Jeremy Payne took the win.

Looking forward to using what we learned to be better at the King of America, hope to see you there!

Several hundred fans braved a fierce wind chill on Saturday, the 16th of March, to watch the first points night of the 2013 season at Humboldt Speedway.

With the third annual King Of America event days away, several USRA Modified teams came to The Hummer for seat time. None, however, had anything for feature winner Jeremy Payne. Payne wired the field, and would appear to be a strong contender in future events. Ryan McAninch took the runner up spot, with Tanner Mullins a strong third. Jackie Dalton was fourth, with Justin Rexwinkle fifth.

The King of America III Modified Nationals begin with Wednesday night practice sessions from 6 to 9 pm. on March 27th. That night, there is no charge for grandstand seating and pit passes are $20. Thursday, March 28, begins the qualifying portion of the event, with more racing Friday night and the main event Saturday. The Iron Man Challenge for USRA B-Mods and USMTS Modifieds will be in action all three nights. With 126 USMTS Modifeds already pre-registered, the total car count is expected to be in the neighborhood of 200.
