SCOTT STUART PULLS OFF INCREDIBLE VICTORY AT HUMBOLDT SPEEDWAY!
By Scott Lee Stewart – Humboldt Speedway May 5, 2012. At Humboldt Speedway, Factory Stock may be the most hotly contested class at the moment. Having said that, picture this: It’s time for the “A” feature. Side by side are Scott Stuart and Ethan Lamons. Let’s just say these two guys don’t exchange Valentines and leave it at that. So, roughly 2 laps in, Stuart has the lead, and the pair collide. Lamons now has a car that doesn’t steer well, and Stuart’s left front tire is off the rim, rolling down the back straight away. Lamons continues, Stuart goes to the pits to change a
tire. He’s still there when the green drops. Stuart is toast. But, is he really? Stuart comes out of the pits like a rocket, but he’s half a lap behind every one else. Lamons fades with a damaged car. The lead changes a couple of times. All of a sudden, a caution comes out. Stuart is in fourth place with the race winding down. So, heck of a job. Too bad he can’t win it. Can he? Well, yes he can. This guy, like him or not, is one heck of a race car driver, especially when he gets mad. Late in the race, Stuart tracks down Patrick Kay, and wins the feature. Kay will finish runner up. Brandon Tindle is third. Clint Drake is fourth, Nick Fritch is fifth. All of them are probably just a wee bit shocked. Congrats, Scott. Great effort!
Indeed, it’s a wild night on The Hummer High Banks.
The OCRS Sprints are here for a once this year show, and they arrive in force.
Unfortunately, as sometimes happens, there are some wrecks; 2 flips in three laps
for example, led to the race being shortened by 5 laps per OCRS officials.
In the end, it didn’t make much difference, because Jamie Passmore had the field
covered, big time. Passmore lead wire to wire, and runner up Whit Gastineau fought a
heck of a battle for second. Rafe Essary finished third, while Shayla Waddell and
Casey Wills rounded out the top five.
In the USRA Modified feature, another anomaly occurred when the lead cars wiped each
other out on the 1st lap! Outside pole sitter John Allen was able to restart, but
Whitey Folk had the inside pole, right beside. Green flag, and the battle was on,
but Folk proved to be the stronger will, leading all the way despite tremendous
pressure from eventual runner up Allen. Brian Bolin came from deep in the pack to
finish third. Chase Sigg was fourth. Dusty Campbell was fifth.
Remember last week when we wrote about B-Mod sensation Trever Hunt? The 13 year old
returned again this week, and bested four of the finest drivers around to prove last
week was no fluke. Runner up Tim VanGotten and third place Jeremy Chambers both lead
the feature at one point or another, before succumbing to Hunt’s amazingly smooth
driving style. Riley Whitworth nailed down the fourth spot, with Curt Drake fifth.
Running last on this week’s program proved no challenge for up and coming Pure Stock
ace Todd Kidwell. In winning the feature, Kidwell lapped a considerable portion of
the 18 car field. Defending Champ Jeremy Willard was second, followed by Levi
Phillips, Kyle Mulsow, and George Reimer.
