31 modifieds gathered to try to win the $1500 Memorial Race at Heartland Park. John started 5th and won the first heat race. In the feature he started 5th row outside. By lap 6 he had already raced up to 4th. His car was a rocket on the bottom, but he noticed the top side was starting to come in. On the restart he tried to go high, and was passed. Most of the race was one lane on the bottom, with only a few cars able to make the top work. John held on to finish 6th.
