Walker, Busby and Clancy Outlast The Field At Lakeside

Kansas City, KS - Mother Nature tried to do her best from keeping Lakeside Speedway from racing on Friday night. Morning showers pelted the area, but the officials at Lakeside deemed that the track would be race ready by the evening. It was a wild and wooly evening where 3 new feature winners were added.

In the Modified division it appeared as if a new star was being born. Luke Driskell has been waiting for his moment in the sun. For a little while it looked as if he had found his time to shine on Friday night.

Driskell got out to the early lead in the feature, but it was last year's hot driver, Joe Walker, getting the win in the end.

It was a night where the conditions weren't ideal, due to all the rain in the area. Drivers struggled to get a grip on this unforgiving surface.

John Allen put on a strong drive to finish in 2nd place. A former track champion at Lakeside, Allen made his first appearance of 2010.

Driskell would hold on for 3rd, Tim Karrick drove to a 4th place finish and the Rocket Man, Rick Beebe, continued his good fortune with a 5th place finish.

Last year's track champion in the Grand National division got off to a rough start on opening night at Lakeside. It looked as if Friday night wouldn't be a good start for him either.

Tim Shields sprinted out to the lead early. Lap after lap he extended his lead. It would all go for nothing as he had a mechanical failure in the rear of the car. Giving up the lead was only half the problem on the night for Shields, who also lost a drive shaft and some rear end parts too.

Gene Claxton, opening week's feature winner, took over at the top spot. Claxton would lead Chad Shaw and Chad Clancy around the track. A mechanical problem forced Claxton to slow coming off of turn four and would eventually knock him out of the race.

While Claxton put his ride in the middle of the track, the battle began to heat up with Shaw and Clancy. The two swapped spots for several laps. Late in the race it was evident that Clancy began to have issues. Fluid was pouring out of the air cleaner lap after lap. Clancy wouldn't give up. He stayed with Shaw and the two put on a show for the fans.

After Shaw had taken over the lead, he found himself behind a lapped car. There was no where to turn for Shaw. Not being the one to hesitate, Clancy put his Shocker Chassis on the high line and drove around Shaw for the lead and the win.

Michael Morse, Tim Billings and Mike Taylor Jr. all had strong races. Each of those drivers would finish in the top 5 respectively.

The Factory Stock event was a good one.

Mike Busby, former Grand National driver, picked up his 1st feature win in the Factory Stock division on Friday night.

Last week Busby was dq'ed for and unapproved amount of air in his right rear tire after the feature. This took him from the top 5 to dead last with the stroke of a pen.

Once he got out in front tonight, Busby was gone. It was just as simple as being a man on a mission.

The feature didn't seem like a race that was going to have a clear cut outcome. Anytime a driver got into the top spot. Other drivers were given the opportunity, other than not to eat band-aid.

Marshall Jewett finished with a 2nd place finish, Justin Seifert looked good in his heat race, as well the feature event finishing 3rd, Cliff Hedges crossed the line in 4th and rounding out your top 5 was Scott Christy.

Spectator gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps are at 7:00 p.m. and the first race goes green at 7:30 p.m. Adult tickets are $12.00, kids 8 to 14 are $6.00 and children 7 and under are always free!
