RUNNER UP AT CANEY VALLEY SPEEDWAY

STARTED: 2ND FINISHED: 2ND The competition level was up Saturday night at Caney Valley Speedway. 19 modifieds gathered to raced for the USRA points. The track was in great shape with side by side racing and close finishes in all classes. John started 2nd row outside in the 2nd heat race, right behind #12 of Johnny Bone Jr. The two quickly pulled away from the field and John went to work to get the lead from Bone. John got beside Bone several times before finally taking the lead with only 3 laps to go. The heat race win put John on the outside front row for the A feature. Justin Folk was on the pole. On the first start John did a marvelous job pulling ahead of Justin on the start and taking the lead on the back straightaway. This start would not hold as the yellow came out for a car hitting a tire in turn #2. On the next start John couldn't quite make the pass on Justin, but raced side by side for 2 laps, always just barely ahead of Justin at the flag stand and yellow came out again! John restarted with the lead, Justin in second. On the restart Justin jumped to the outside and raced side by side with John again, only now the lanes were switched. Justin finally made the pass to take the lead and a couple of laps later the yellow would fly once again. On the restart this time Justin pulled to the infield with motor trouble. John was in the lead once again, but now #39 of Gary Langworthy was in full pursuit. John held the lead until about lap 14 when Gary found his way around John. Gary went on to take the win, John in second, and #09 of Casey McClaskey in third. John will be racing with the USMTS from Tues - Sat. Hope you can make it to one or more of these races!
