TWO IN A ROW!

TWO IN A ROW!
Dayton Sutterby Photo

STARTED: 10TH

FINISHED: FIRST!

After winning his 7th USRA feature at Caney Valley Speedway last Saturday night, John backed it up with another USRA win at Humboldt Speedway Friday night!  This is his 9th win of the season!

In the heat race John started on the inside of the 2nd row.  He quickly moved to 2nd behind leader 18R Rodney Sigg.  The two battled side by side for many laps until Sigg spun out coming out of turn four and collected John.  He wasn't finished then,  he ran his car into John after the yellow flag was out and the two had stopped on the front straightaway.  John exited the car to check for damage and then pulled into the pits.  John was then confronted by Sigg and resulted in Sigg being suspended from racing at Humboldt Speedway for the rest of Friday night and the following week.

After all that John started the A feature on the outside of row 5.  On the first lap the caution flag flew for a crash in turn #3.  After the race got going John quickly found himself in 2nd position behind his old orange car of Brian Bolin.  After getting by Brian, John led the remainder of the race with Brian finishing 2nd, Scott Daniels, 9D third, 6 of Justin Folk 4th, and 7jr of Jess Folk Jr. fifth.

John will back at Caney Valley Speedway racing for more USRA points.  Hope to see you there!

DRIVERS REUNION HONORS THE HERITAGE OF HUMBOLDT SPEEDWAY!

by Scott Lee Stewart

Back in 1968, when Dale Hobart was turning a rock strewn pasture into Humboldt Speedway, there existed a hardy group of individuals who lived and worked only to race. Young, tough, men who never heard of ordering race car parts from UPS, who didn't need a scale, and why would anybody build a roll cage out of anything but drill pipe anyway? Race tracks were everywhere, you could run four or five nights a week, provided the salvage yard had the parts you needed. Saftey belts were a good idea, especially if you could get em' surplus from the Air Force. Two bucks for a pit pass, ten gallons of Ethyl (maybe throw in a few moth balls or some denatured alcohol for good measue), and you were in business. Rolled your car? Great! That paid 5 dollars and a trophy!

These are the men that are the legacy of the sport we love so dearly, and Humboldt Speedway was proud to reunite more than 20 of these old adversaries Friday night. It was great to hear stories of coupes, flatheads, 55 Chevys and 56 Fords. And, it was truly amazing to think how far we have come. Still, we are not that far removed from yesterday's heros.

Racing was intense, as it always is at The Hummer. Scott Stuart bested all comers in Factory Stock, followed by Doug Scism, Brandon Tindle, Patrick Kay and Karl Churning.

Fitting the ocassion, the Vintage cars made their second appearence in 2 weeks. Like last week, Al Broers won the feature. He was followed by Joe Martin, Pat Trusler, and Brandon Masur.

In his first ever Humboldt appearence, Jeff Albright, Jr of Lebanon, Missouri won the B-Mod feature. Paden Phillips was runner up. Dalton Kirk, Rick Aielo, and Mike Letterman filled out the top five.

Jack Simmons captured his first Hummer Late Model feature of the year. Zack Simmons followed Dad across the checkers in second, with Brian Bolin third. Justin Hoepker was fourth, with Jimmy Seagraves fifth.

Tuning up for next weeks USMTS extravaganza, "Johnny Lightning"; better known to mere mortals as John Allen, racked up the feature win. Second went to Brian Bolin, with Scott Daniels third, followed by Whitey Folk and Jess Folk, Jr.

Yes, the USMTS Modified tour is back at The Hummer next week, along with Nascar superstar Ken Schrader. Admission will be $15.00.
