14 B-M-MODS
Kenton started 3rd in the first heat race and was able to finish 2nd. That put him 4th in passing points on the night. He started the A feature on the outside of row two. He was running 4th until he found something on the high side and was able to pass and get into 2nd place behind outside pole sitter Tyler Kidwell. Brian McGowen had made his way from his 5th starting position to 3rd. Kenton and McGowen had a great race for second. Kidwell grabbed the win and the points championship. Kenton finished 2nd once again and Brian fell back to finish 4th behind Brian Bolin.
Kenton will be at Caney Valley Speedway on Saturday. Hope to see you there!
DENNIS BISHOP SHINES IN HUMBOLDT SPEEDWAY POINTS FINALE!
By Scott Lee Stewart
Dateline 08/28/2020
From Victory Lane at Humboldt Speedway, Dennis Bishop was asked: “ How long has it been since you won a Feature race, Dennis?”
Bishop paused, reflected for a moment, then said: “I really don’t know.”
Long term residents of the Hummer High Banks, most of whom have worked the track for 20+ years, agreed amongst themselves that Bishop, one of the nicest drivers you will ever meet, had never tasted Humboldt feature victory.
Bishop’s victory, a wire to wire win in the ultra-competitive Whitworth Construction Street Stock division, capped the final points night for the 2020 season at The Hummer. Season points champion Devin Irvin took second place, season points runner up Scott Stuart finished third. Dan Daniels marked his first feature appearance of the year in the Division with a fourth place finish, while Joe Martin of Wellsville, Ks. took fifth.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Tyler Kidwell secured the Points Championship in the Ray’s Metal Depot B-Mod division with a feature win, his 101st feature win in a young career. Kenton Allen turned in a spectacular performance as well, edging out Ft. Scott driver Brian Bolin for second. Brian McGowen finished fourth in the event, Bryce Weldon was fifth.
Barry Luthi of Topeka, Ks secured both the Season Points Championship and yet another feature win in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Sport Compacts division, holding off a strong challenge by runner up Devin Schmidt of Nortonville, Ks. Third spot went to Terry “T.J.” McDonald, Cayden Vance was fourth, with Brandon Vink in fifth.
Jon Westhoff has had a spectacular season in the Home Savings Bank Factory Stocks, rounding off his Season Points Championship with one more feature win. Trey Stipp of Humboldt found the groove he liked on his way to runner up, holding off third place Scott Collins. Ethan Vance recorded the fourth spot, and Brian Knisley was fifth.
Meanwhile, in what has become business as usual, Jacob Ellison secured the feature win in the Loves Travel Stops Midwest Mod division, and in the process secured the division Points Championship. Mike Churning finished a strong second, Ryan Smith was third, Casey Jesseph fourth, and Mark Hunziger fifth.
Finally, an appearance of the ARMI USRA Modifieds saw Tyler Wolff of Fayetteville, Ar. net a $1000 payday with a 20 lap wire to wire feature victory. Runner up went to Joplin, Mo. driver Kyle Thompson, with Clint Johnson of Neosho, Mo. third. Darron Fuqua of Mayetta, Ks. recorded fourth, and Payden Phillips of Chanute was fifth.
Thus ended the 2020 regular season at Humboldt Speedway. However, the action continues, with The Monster Truck Show Sept. 11th and 12th, and special races being held in both October and November.
