HOLIDAYS AND HOODS

HOLIDAYS AND HOODS
Hood from Sunday at Humboldt.

HUMBOLDT SPEEDWAY

STARTED 9TH
FINISHED DNF
Does anyone remember Mother's Day? Anyone? I do. We were at Wheatland, MO and Rex Merritt failed to "turn left" and ran straight over John's hood. Fast forward to Sunday night, Father's Day. John took his brand new Hughes Chassis to Humboldt to shake it down before the 3 night USMTS swing later this week. In hot laps he didn't have any rear brake in the car. The crew went to work and got one side fixed before the heat race. He finished 3rd. The crew went back to work and got the other side fixed and we were allowed to hot lap it before the A feature. The car was good! The track was smooth, slick and good on the bottom. John jumped out and passed a few cars in the first few laps and was up to 4th. On lap about 10 a no name local driver dove down below John coming into turn number 3. This is the part I think I will have trouble explaining, but here it goes. John went high coming out of four to give this car some room. Keep in mind this car is ahead of John. As John is high exiting turn 4 the guy drives in about 20 mph faster and actually gets his entire rear end ON TOP of John's hood. Your heard it, on top of our brand new racecar! Hello! Anyway of course HE is fine and finishes the race. John has no hood, no steering and who knows what else. So much for the Mother's Day and Father's Day for these parents in 2008.
John will be back in action on Thurs. at Mayetta, KS. Hope to see you there!
