There were 55 modifieds that braved the snow (yes, I said snow!), wind and cold temperatures Sunday afternoon at Thunderhill Speedway. The USMTS $2,000 to win show ended up being very exciting with many cars not finishing due to damage. The rough track made the cars bounce around and one even got flipped over!
John started on the 4th row inside of the 4th heat race. He finished 4th behind heat race winner Kelly Shryock, 2nd place Johnny Bone Jr and 3rd place Greg Skaggs. They took the top 13 in passing points to the A and John was 20th in passing points. He started 3rd in the 1st B feature. There were three 12 lap B features and they took the top 3 finishers to the A main. John won the 1st B and started the A in 14th.
The first lap of the A saw a big crash in the front of the field that would move John up to 7th posistion on the restart. John moved up to 5th only to have a tire knocked down. John came in to pit, got the tire changed and went back out restarting 17th. With about 10 laps to go John raced his way up to 4th and it looked like he might get to battle for the win! Then with less than 2 laps to go John was passed by Steve Kosiski and finished 5th. It was a great night for the 98 team with only 2 nights on the new "spec motor" and spoiler combination. John is planning to race again next Fri and Sat in McCool Junction, NE with the USMTS. Hope to see you there!
