STARTED 6TH
FINISHED 4TH
19 MODS. John started on the pole of the 2nd heat race. He looked to grab the win until a late yellow closed the gap and 2nd place runner #5 of Reed passed John on the low side to take the win. John settled for 2nd.
That put him 6th in passing points. John started the A feature outside row 3. He moved to 4th and about mid way through the race the track locked down on the bottom and it was a one lane follow the leader deal. Reed took the feature win with Jim Moody in 2nd, Marrant in 3rd and John 4th. Eric Turner rounded out the top 5.
Robbie Reed headlines ‘Mighty Mods’ at CMS
By CMS PR (Warrensburg, MO) — Sizzling hot and threatening weather did not keep the race fans and drivers from their Saturday night racing fix at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS)Saturday night for Better Country KIX 105.7 and Budweiser night at CMS.
Fans were anxious to see their favorite drivers compete for the weekly championship wins on a night that saw some new faces in the winner’s circle. Jeremiah Wilson from Concordia celebrated with another win for his third Pure Stock feature win while Troy Carlyle from Kearney drove to the B-mod winner’s circle for the second time this year. Brian Ziegler from Bates City claimed his first CMS Street Stock feature win of the year while Robbie Reed Mexico, Missouri captured his first-ever CMS win in USRA Modified action.
Pure Stocks started off the heat racing action to place drivers into their respective feature starting spots with Leroy Morrison claiming the first heat with first time visiting driver Cody Satterwhite from Topeka, Kansas and Rob Gard trailing at the finish. For heat number two, Jeremiah Wilson passed Jason Cochran on the last lap for the win with Darrin Christy third.
Pure Stock drivers lined up for their 10- lap feature even with Wilson quickly maneuvering his car into the early lead with Darrin Christy moving up from fifth into second by lap six. Wilson ultimately went on to capture his third feature win of the year, Christy followed in second while Satterwhite had a solid run in third. Leroy Morrison ended in fourth with Jason Ryun, last week’s feature winner fifth and Jason Cochran in sixth.
Another strong field of B-Mod drivers signed in for weekly competition in three heat races to set their starting spots for the feature event. Cody Frazon grabbed heat one over Troy Carlyle and Jacob Ebert with heat two going to Chris Brockway for his first heat win of the year over Richard Brainard and Cody Brill. The final heat race saw Darren Phillips advance to the checkers in front of Jason Billups and Brad Moore.
Twenty B-Mods filed onto the track for their 15-lap main event to see if someone could break a four-week stretch of wins by Jacob Ebert. Frazon grabbed the early feature lead as he rolled out of turn two ahead of Phillips and Carlyle with Ebert stalking the top three. After a lap-three caution, Carlyle started his move to the front of the field by working past Phillips as Ebert, Dean Wille and Eddie Bray raced into the top six.
Carlyle had to hold off Ebert on several late race restarts and finally came under the checkers first to end Ebert’s streak with his second victory of the year. He commented on using a previous setup for this event and it turned out to be a winning night for the Kearney, Missouri native. Ebert fought off Wille for the runner-up spot with Wille third. Eddie Bray, Jr., moved up from his eleventh starting spot into fourth while Brett Wood came from deep in field to fifth. Cody Brill rebounded all the way to sixth after an early race spin.
Street Stock drivers had another chance to claim a weekly feature and place some pressure on point’s leader Brett Wood with 12 drivers in the pits competing in two heat races. Brian Ziegler drove to victory in heat one over Wood and Brian Cox. Troy Turley claimed the second heat race ahead of Clayton Campbell and Gary Akers to setup the main event starting grid.
At CMS the Street Stock competition can be an entertaining for race fans andSaturday was a wild affair in a survival of the fittest run to the checkers as several incidents unfolded marring the event. After a first lap incident with several drivers, Wood and Turley were battling for the lead side by side on the restart with Wood emerging as the leader. However, Ziegler was close behind and worked hard to overtake Wood, something that several drivers have unsuccessfully attempted to do this season.
While it appeared Wood wrestled control of the race, Ziegler and Clayton Campbell also challenged in the top three. On a mid-race restart on lap six, Ziegler maneuvered his way to the top spot and stayed out front until the incident-filled race came to a close.
After a late race red flag stopped the action on the track, Ziegler, a former track champion at CMS, returned to victory lane for the first time this year over Campbell who finished a strong second. Wood fought his way back to third with Chad Eickleberry fourth, as the final car to finish. Pole-sitter Turley ended the night in fifth.
USRA Modifieds competed for their weekly $1,000 to-win feature event with 19 drivers on hand for three preliminary heat races to establish the starting grid for their 25-lap feature event. Aaron Marrant won in convincing fashion in heat one with Gunner Martin and Dean Wille in tow. Robbie Reed of Mexico, Missouri won heat two ahead of John Allen and Terry Schultz. The third and final heat of the night went to Kyle Westerhold for his first win at CMS this year followed by Nick Pence and Eddie Bray, Jr.
The USRA Modified drivers closed the night out for their 25-lap main event with the top heat race passing point’s drivers leading the field to the green. Reed and Marrant battled early side by side for the lead until Reed established himself as the clear-cut leader.
Several early cautions caused some scrambling for drivers inside the top five with Gunner Martin and Terry Schultz both involved in an early race skirmish. Schultz later charged back to a seventh-place finish after returning; however, Martin’s night came to an early end as he took his car back to the pits.
Reed immediately reestablished his top spot on the restart with Jim Moody now adding pressure to Marrant for second. Moody moved into the second spot with Marrant settling into third. Reed had accumulated six victories at various tracks this season but had not claimed a CMS main event, until this night when he rolled to the front of the field for his second win of the weekend after capturing the win at Callaway Raceway on Friday night near Fulton, Missouri. Moody didn’t miss a beat upon his return to CMS competition and moved up from the sixth row into second, Marrant stayed in third with John Allen, Eric Turner and Danny Scrogham completing the top-six at the finish.
