22 MODS. John started on the pole of the third and final heat race. Matt Dotson took the lead on the start and never looked back. John was running 2nd the entire race until the 20R of Rodney Sanders passed him on the last lap. John had to settle for 3rd. That put him starting the A main on the outside of row five. He was pretty good and was running 6th during most of the race. Some late cautions didn't go his way and he ended up 8th. Dotson took the win after a great race with Sanders.
A full moon Friday night and perfect weather conditions brought out some of the best of the best USRA Modifieds for a $2000.00 to win, 35 lap shootout to kick off the Fourth of July weekend at Humboldt Speedway.
Topping the field was Hallsville, Mo. Driver Matt Dotson, who proved untouchable on his way to the feature win. Runner up was Rodney Sanders of Happy, Texas. Taking third, Mitch Keeter of Webb City, Mo. Mt. Hope, Ks. Driver Tad Davis took fourth, with Chase Domer of Nevada, Mo. Fifth.
B-Mod feature action was a $500.00 to win affair, captured by Bonner Springs ace Lucas Issacs. Tim Vanotten was runner up, Tyler Kidwell, Brandon Jones and Jimmie Davis filled out the “Fast Five”
Action was especially intense in the Stock Car division main event, as Patrick Kay and Tyler James went wheel to wheel for 16 full laps, trading the lead numerous times. Ever resourceful, James saved his best for the very end, edging Kay at the checkered flag. Jason Thurman claimed third, Morris Sutton fourth, and Ken Colston fifth.
Mike Churning secured his place as the Pure Stock driver to beat with yet another feature win this week. Jon Westhoff turned in a stron performance to take second, with Wayne Johnson third. Derrek Wilson was fourth, Zoe Hannah fifth.
Post race, fans were treated to a magnificent fireworks display, courtesy of promoters Rhenda and Ryan Whitworth.
