NIGHT #1 CENTRAL MISSOURI SPEEDWAY

STARTED 2ND

DNF

John started on the pole of his heat race and won it.  That put him in the redraw.  He redrew 2.  On the start he was running 2nd when he hit some water on the track and spun.  He was hit and had to be taken off the track on the hook.

He will try again tonight.  The top 12 last night make up the inside row for Saturday's A main.  He will try to qualify for the outside row tonight!

Cutshaw on Tom Wilson Memorial pole, Ziegler pockets $1,500 Street Stock prize at CMS

By Sam Stoecklin, CMS PR (Warrensburg, MO) — A total of 94 cars checked in for competition for night one of the 9th Annual Tom Wilson Memorial BBQ Bowl at Central Missouri Speedway! Midwest Mod Lites made their first appearance of the year with 13 cars, 305 Sprints returned with 6 cars on hand, a total of 35 USRA Modifieds filed in while 40 Street Stocks came through the gates for their $1,500-to-win special event.

Mod Lites started the night off with a pair of heat races with David Raffurty and Travis Alexander taking the heat race victories. Street Stock heat races were next on the program with five heat races as drivers fought for the best starting positions for the main event as Chad Eickleberry, Brian Ziegler, Brett Wood, Bobby Raybourn, and John Clancy, Jr. picked up heat race wins. The 305 Sprints competed in one heat race during the program with Lauren Klem picking up the win.CutshawLeeJul4

Completing the heat race action for the night was the ‘Mighty’ Modifieds with four big heat races to set the stage for the 20-lap scramble later in the night. Danny Crane, John Allen, Eric Turner, and Jeff Cutshaw claimed the heat race wins with Zack Vanderbeek claiming the B-Main.

Mod Lites were the first to hit the track for their main event after a full night of preliminary action. The last time the Mod Lites were at the track competing was in 2004 and it was a Raffurty who went to victory lane. Ten years later the Raffurty name once again pulled into victory lane. This time it was young Dillon Raffurty of Independence, Missouri who dominated the night for his first CMS win. Stephen Spies of Belton, Missouri finished second, followed by David Raffurty, Michael Raffurty, Kelly Bergstrom, and Justin Raffurty rouned out the top six.

Just like the Mod Lites, the 305 main had a theme to it as well. The last time 305 Sprints competed at CMS was 2001 when Christi Hoenshell took the win becoming one of the few lady drivers to win at CMS over the years. On Friday night, Loren Klem added her name to the list of lady drivers who have taken a win as she crossed the line first in the 305 Sprint Car main. Matt McGary, Steven Cross, Mike Schouten, Dean Koch, and Joe Frazier rounded out the top six.

In the night one Modified Scramble, Jeff Cutshaw and John Allen led the charge for twenty laps. After a strong start to the night, Brian Johnson’s night ended early, as did Tyler Shaw’s and Jason Bodenhamer. John Allen had a scary moment in the front of the field early in the event as his car faced the wrong direction in front of the full field. Although most cars were able to avoid heavy contact, Allen’s night came to an early end as he went off on the hook.

Jeff Cutshaw ran strong all night long with Dennis Elliott hanging near the top all night long. Jim Moody, winner of the May special event ran strong to make his way to the top three. Eric Turner, Chad Lyle, and Brent Holman ran near the front as well. Tim Karrick was another early retiree and will have to try again tomorrow night for night two.

In the end, no one had anything for Cutshaw as he claimed the win. The final top 12 in the scramble, which will make up the inside row for tomorrow night’s inside row of the $5,000-to-win race are: Jeff Cutshaw, Dennis Elliott, Jim Moody, Eric Turner, Zack VanderBeek, Brent Holman, Chad Lyle, Grant Junghans, Tyler Schmidt, Dany Crane, Steven Bowers Jr., and Dalton Kirk. All drivers declared their starting spots so the top 12 will remain as shown here.

Former champion Brian Ziggy Ziegler had a rash of bad luck leading up to the night’s main event for the Street Stocks, but that all changed on Friday when he powered his way to the front. Ziegler and Eickleberry ran strong at the front of the field early on with Troy Turley, Bobby Raybourn and Brett Wood inside the top five.

Ziegler pulled away with each restart on the field after some early race cautions with Eickleberry holding strong in second. Allen Perryman and Jeremy McConville were early retirees before lap 10. By lap nine a third yellow appeared on the field as Ziegler continued to lead Eickleberry, James McMillin, Turley, and Raybourn.

A scary incident involving James McMillin occurred on the ensuing restart as his car clipped the outer rail in turn number one. Fortunately, McMillin was okay in the incident, which also collected Troy Turley, another strong early race runner. After maintenance on the rail, the race resumed with Ziegler in command.

For the final stretch, Ziegler was too strong as he led the final green flag laps and went on to a commanding victory and a whopping $1,500 payday! Behind the leader at the finish were Michael Mullins, John Clancy, Jr., Marc Carter, Chad Eickleberry, and John Coats.

Racing resumes Saturday evening at CMS with gates opening at 4:30, hot laps at 7, and racing at 7:30. General admission is $15 for adults, military and seniors $12, kids 6 to 12 $5 and children 5 and under free! All Saturday pit passes are $30.
