STARTED 6TH
FINISHED FIRST!!
When John used his mulligan on Thurs he felt he had a chance to better is position. He was well on his way after winning the B feature, but when the right rear tire started to go down so did his chances of winning the $10,000 on Saturday. With a tight battle for the USRA National Title John decided to head home, load up the Hughes car and head to West Siloam for a 2-day $2,000 to win show.
23 modifieds were on hand Friday night and John drew the biggest pill in the pot! He started 7th in the third and final heat race. He was able to make it up to finish second. That run would normally set him on the pole or towards the front with passing points, but this race was heads up so John started 6th. The track was very much one lane on the bottom. John had to do something to get around the five cars in front of him, so he started running a lane above everyone else. He soon was running the very top and making progress. A late yellow saw John in second behind the 33 of Steven Mulliburg. He didn't stay there long and drove by for the lead and then the win! The top six finishers were locked in for Saturday's $2,000 to win, so John would be on the pole!
