SEDALIA - Two wrecks at the Missouri State Fair Speedway left six people injured.

A 15 year-old sprint car driver crashed his car and was left seriously injured but in stable condition as of 12 a.m. Monday. The boy was life-flighted to a hospital in Columbia.

A separate wreck left five injured after a race car in the "Battle of the Badges" competition reportedly flew off the track and into the infield a little after 9 p.m. Sunday night.

Blaine Wheeler, a witness from Hickensville, Mo., told KOMU a car was coming around from the straightaway and spun - might've been clipped - and jumped over the rail, through the chain link fence.

"You could see the people that got hit; they were just trying to run away," said Wheeler.

A 57 year-old male was taken by helicopter to a Columbia hospital and was in serious condition as of 12 a.m. Monday. A 34 year-old female from California is also in serious condition in a Columbia hospital. A 27 year-old female is in moderate condition in Bothwell Hospital in Sedalia. Two other spectators were injured but treated at the scene. The driver of the race car was not hurt.

The "Battle of the Badges" race involves old police cars that have been modified to race and served as a charity event for the Special Olympics.
