SMP WIN AT MUSKOGEE!!!

STARTED 4TH

FINISHED FIRST!!!!

Only 14 modifieds braved the heat on Sunday at Thunderbird Speedway in Muskogee, OK.  The cars were divided into two groups for time trials.  John was in the second group and was 3rd fastest.  This put him on the front row outside of the 2nd heat race.  The start was awful with the polesitting car jumping the start and John fell back to third.  He worked his way back to the front and took the lead on lap 4 out of 6.  John hung onto the lead and won the heat race.
In the feature John started 2nd row outside.  #96 Chad Lyle was on the pole and #12 Johnny Bone Jr was on his outside.  After several start attempts the race finally got going.  John and Chad put on quite a show for second as Johnny Bone Jr stretched out his lead.  John finally got by Chad and went to work catching Bone.  On lap 15 (halfway) John was right behind Bone, but he pulled in due to motor problems.  John was in the lead, but the yellow flew and that put Lyle right behind John again.  The duo drove off from the rest of the field, but put on a heck of a show!  The raced side by side never touching lap after lap.  John held on for the win and Chad had to settle for second.
John will be finishing out the rest of the SMP Speedweek with Grain Valley on Wed, Caney on Thurs and Fri and ending up at South Coffeyville on Sunday.   Hope to see you there!

Allen tops COMP Cams SMP Speedweek action at Thunderbird

Muskogee , OK - July 18, 2011
By: Ben Shelton

The 2nd Annual COMP Cams SMP Speedweek rolled into Thunderbird Speedway (Muskogee, Oklahoma) on Sunday night for the third round of the series, and when the final checkered flag dropped it was John Allen, who had claimed his first ever series triumph

Chad Lyle from Oak Grove, Missouri set fast time in his group and overall in MRW Racing Wheels Pole Qualifying to earn the pole starting spot for the 25 lap, main event with Saturday night’s winner, Johnny Bone Jr., joining him on the front row.

After a few unsuccessful attempts to get the race underway, Bone Jr. jumped to the lead at the drop of the green flag with Lyle, George Martin, and John Allen in tow.

Bone Jr. would quickly motor to a one second advantage by the time that the caution waved on lap 7 for debris. On the ensuing restart Bone Jr. would again stretch his advantage as John Allen moved into the second spot past Chad Lyle on lap 12. The next few laps would see Bone’s lead begin to shrink, and on lap 15, Bone Jr. would retire to the infield with terminal issues as Allen inherited the lead.

Lap 18 would see the event’s final caution flag wave as Allen Chickering detonated a motor down the front stretch. On the next restart the battle for the lead would become intense as Allen grasped to the top spot as Lyle applied heavy pressure. Over the course of the final five laps the duo would battle side-by-side before Allen pulled away on the final lap to take the win by a car length. He was followed across the line by Lyle, George Martin, Brett Hansen, and Kyle Schmidt.

The RacingJunk.com first heat was won by Kyle Schmidt with John Allen winning the MRW Racing Wheels second heat.

The 2nd Annual COMP Cams SMP Speedweek, will take two nights off before resuming its campaign on Wednesday night, July 20th at Valley Speedway (Grain Valley, Missouri) with a $1,500 to win/$125 to start, 30 lap event. For more information, please visit www.SMPSeries.com.
