45 modifieds gathered at Warrensburg, MO to vie for the $5,000 top prize. John started 9th (dead last) in the third heat race. This heat race was full of talent, Karrick, Lyle, Shryock, Bone Jr, Moody, and they all started in front of John. John was a rocket at the start, moving up to third after only two laps! In the closing laps it came down to the #96 of Chad Lyle with John in second. The two raced side by side and in the end John would take the win and Chad would settle for second, the #3 of Kelly Shryock rounded out the top 3.
That finish put John as top point man after passing points were figured. The top 12 in passing points redrew for their starting position in the A main scramble. The top 12 finishers in the scramble would set the line up for the inside row of Sunday night's A main. John redrew 11.
In the A main scramble John was a rocket on the start once again. After only three laps John was up to third, but the caution flag came out and John had to restart in 5th. That didn't matter though as John soon found himself in second running down the leader, Kelly Shryock. The two distanced themselves from the field and Kelly took the win, John settled for second. John will start the $5,000 to win race on Sunday in third!
