18 modifieds were divided into three heat races Friday night at Humboldt Speedway. John started outside the front row in the third heat race. He took the lead on about lap four and never looked back. He won the heat race by a half a straightaway.
In the feature the 20-lap race went all green, no yellow caution flags. On the start John dropped to fourth. Fifth place starter, Brian Bolin the 2x raced side by with John for much of the race. In the last five laps Brian secured fourth place and John was riding in fifth. Both drivers would complain of being "too tight" for the A feature. John made a high side move on the last lap and nipped Brian at the line for fourth.
