27 modifieds were at Humboldt Speedway on Friday night.   They were divided into three heat races.  John started third in the first heat.  He won it by a straightaway.
In the A feature John started front row outside next to polesitter Brian Bolin.  John and Brian raced side by side for six laps when John finally took the lead.  He kept his distance on the field until lap 13 when the yellow flag flew.  By that time Johnny Bone Jr. had taken second from Bolin.  The restart saw Bone on the bottom and John on the top.  They raced side by side for a few laps until John hit the wall coming out of turn four.  Bone then took the lead and John was able to hold off Bolin for second.
